The National AIDS Directorate has initiated another aspect of the Government of Grenada’s strategy to fight HIV/AIDS. Part of the Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) component of the strategy is the Celebrity Testing Programme, which was introduced at a media briefing today, Tuesday, April 6. Director Dr. Roger Radix was the first celebrity to be tested, in an effort to “lead by example,” urging citizens to take advantage of the testing services. The VCT programme, to be launched in May, will encourage persons at risk to come forward and be tested at special clinics to be held at the following locations; the General Hospital, the Grand Bras Health Centre, the Gouyave Health Centre and the Hillsborough Health Centre. These special clinics will provide screening for hyper tension and diabetes, in addition to HIV/AIDS. Test results will be confidential. Also launched on Tuesday was the ‘Health POSSE’ and Dr. Radix encouraged young people to join the POSSE, with its slogan Healthy Exercise, Proper Diet and Safe Sex, noting that the safest sex for young people is Abstinence.
