PLANS TO NAME GRENADA AIRPORT AFTER MAURICE BISHOP SPAR...
Public debate in Grenada rages on over plans to rename the Point Salines International Airport after the slain Prime Minister Maurice Bishop. Mr. Bishop was assassinated in 1983, and subsequent events led to a United States invasion. Current Prime Minister Tillman Thomas was himself jailed for two years under the Bishop administration. Despite this, Mr. Thomas' Government has approved in principle the renaming of the airport. The decision has received high praise from the former head of the Maurice Bishop Patriotic Movement, Dr. Terrence Marryshaw. But newspaper editor Leslie Pierre fiercely opposes it, saying it is unnecessary as there is already a Maurice Bishop highway. Reprinted from radioja.com

PLANS TO NAME GRENADA AIRPORT AFTER MAURICE BISHOP SPAR...

It is so right and fitting, it is more appropriate to name the airport after Maurice Bishop. It was a vision that he initiated and we are all proud of that accomplishment today. Mr. Pierre, tell you what, let's change the name of the Highway to your name perhaps you wont be so angry then. Despite everything Maurice Bishop is not a name that will ever be forgotten in Grenada. To the person who commented that we don't need that mess, well do you remember that Maurice lost his Dad under the Gairy Government, now that was mess and it is not forgotten, so what is your point. I will be ever so proud to land at the MBIA. In my mind I always say that when I come home anyway. So I would love to see that happen.
