GRENADA _ Kelvin “Pussy” Antoine, a St. John’s resident, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter for causing the death of Cosley Beharry of Maran St. Johns on December 25th 2007, has been sentenced to spend the next eight years at the Richmond Hill Prison. This sentence was handed down on Monday by Justice Lyle St. Paul. Pussy received a ‘lesser ‘sentence because of his guilty plea. His sentence could have been longer if he had gone to the full trial and then was found guilty. The maximum penalty for manslaughter in Grenada is 15 years. Pussy claimed during the trial that Beharry was armed with a cutlass and was about to attack him and that the fatal gunshot that he fired was because he feared for his life. The incident occurred in the public road after a domestic dispute involving the two men. The Beharry family is believed to be dissatisfied with the sentence and is of the opinion that the sentence was ‘too light.’ INSIDE GRENADA NEWS
