GRENADIAN CALYPSONIAN FACES RAPE CHARGE
Grenada’s reigning Calypso monarch, Biko Lewis, appeared at the Sauteurs Magistrate Court yesterday where he was formally charged and cautioned for the offense of rape. The 24 year old calypsonian, who resides in the Parish of St. Patrick, is accused of raping a fifteen year old girl from the same parish. It is alleged that he offered the young girl a ride in his vehicle (sometime over the last weekend) and did not drop her off at her intended destination but instead proceeded to a remote location where the act was committed.

If she is fifteen years, how comes she can give consent?this is the kind of mind you have,If she was your daughter, will you like that?Let us wait for the facts and after that if he is convicted, please hang him in market square and send a message. Please have some comparsion for the agrieved and donot not support nonsense. We have a duty to protect our children.

This seems at face value-mere accusations. I have known "biko" personally for a very long time and I am convinced that this "rape" never occurred. I am not pretending to know the facts of the events or to accurately assume what happened. But this incident is no different that what occurred before namely the inspector rape incident. It was consensual and casual. This is just an opportunistic young girl wanting fame and recognition at the expense of the image of a talented Grenadian Calypsonian.

while i agree with you andrew,we must all remember that someone is innocent until proven guilty.let the matter play out in court and justice will be done.

First I want to express my deepest regret to the young lady and her family. I wish this episode experienced by the minor had never occurred. Which begs the question, what is the state of law and order on the island; for a recognized figure to commit such an act on a minor? It just shows the blatant disregard of the laws of the land, by some people in authority and in a higher position. I hope that the Judge and the Attorney General will take a close look at this case and begin to set a new tone, for those kinds of crimes committed, which also includes teachers and student relationship and incest that sometimes pop it ugly head in our society. We hope that the judgment and the sentence that’ll be handed down, fits the crime and challenge the Law Authorities, to stop making the rest of the world look at our system of laws, as uncivilized and barbaric.
