PRIME MINISTER VISITS WITH OSCAR BARTHOLOMEW'S WIFE
ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, 4 JANUARY, 2012_ Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has assured Mrs. Dolette Bartholomew, the widow of Oscar Bartholomew, who died as a result of an incident at a police station in St. David on Boxing Day, that his office will ensure that the investigation into the death of her husband will be thorough, complete and professional. The Prime Minister gave the assurance to Mrs. Bartholomew and other members of her husband’s family during a meeting at their home in Grand Anse, on Wednesday evening, Mr. Thomas, who is also responsible for National Security, extended his condolences to the family and said he was “greatly saddened” at the incident. “This is a regrettable tragedy and a painful experience for you, for his extended family and for all of us in Grenada. Our first priority is to ensure that the investigation is transparent and that justice prevails,” the Prime Minister told Mrs. Bartholomew, who was accompanied by her lawyer, Derick Sylvester. “We will take all the necessary steps to ensure, if at all possible, that this situation is never repeated in Grenada,” the Grenadian leader told Mrs. Bartholomew, acknowledging that the wide spread publicity given to the death of her husband has affected Grenada’s image as a law abiding country where the rights of people are respected. “I have many friends in Grenada and we came here for a visit with family and friends, not for this. All I want to see is justice,” Mrs. Bartholomew told the Prime Minister. The Grenadian leader has called for a review of the policy governing persons held in police custody, to ensure that they are treated appropriately.

observer you have to pity Gabe, the guy should stayon his day job.Observer you are so correct on history and memory that is what causes nations to develope and move forward, they remember so they donot have to go through the same thing over and over again, but people like Gabe and Tilly are like sitting ducks, where is their compasion to the families of those that been slaughter by the gang of 17,where is the moral out cry?you and I understand the seriousness of history. It is sad to see how people have selective memory and how politicans use it over and over from Gairy to Tilly,Bishop is the exception,he wanted good for the average citizen that is the right step to progress. It hurts my heart to see time and time again our people fall for the same shit, then they wonder why their lives are so miserable.

Ron, Stallion, Royr, Nancy, Johnny B Good, I would like to address Gabe on his response and I hope you all will understand my views clearly. Gabe, one of the worst things a people can do is to forget their past. Black folk, especially some of us in Grenada and Caribbean do not know where the hell we came from. All our slave masters told us are we're from Africa, we lived on trees, behave like animals, etc. and we went along with everything they told us. No historical facts to backup what we don't know. The Jews on the other hand went thru the holocaust almost 70 years ago. But guess what? They consistently teach what occurred to them to their children and future generations, to ensure that what was done to them would never happen again. They ensure their children are properly well educated about their history. Gabe, I don't know what you're thinking, but let it be known: If we should forget our past, then we have absolutely nothing to think about and look forward to in the future. And on that basis, I will conclude that Grenada is the way it is because we have failed to recognize that our past and experiences set a tone or platform and precedent to guide us into the future. We as a black race are too bloody gullible. We'll sell each other for every and any thing, no matter how simple and cheap. What Gang 17 did to Maurice Bishop, his cabinet members, especially pregnant Jacklyn Creft, the Bain Brothers, other cabinet members and hundreds of innocent Grenadians should never be taken lightly. Yes, Bishop made mistake, but sure did more good for his people than those many of you would consider democratically elected. Bishop gave us education which in my view is freedom. Teach a man to be productive and self reliant and watch him grow and improve his community. I hope many of you will come to recognize the injustice that the NNP and NDC governments have committed against the surviving and deceased victims of Bernard Coard, Hudson Austin, Leon "Bogo" Cornwall, Ventura, cecil Prime, Strachan and others. Our current government has demonstrated it has no respect and regards for those who suffered and died during the October 1983 Gang 17 murderous spree of the country. To employ, finance the lifestyles and protect members of Gang 17 should be a cause for uproar. And please don't say Grenada is a peaceful state. Unfortunately, it's a place of people with no regards for history because they're as blind as bats. Please tell me which country in the western hemisphere will tolerate the Gang 17 and grant them such privileges. Tell me, Gabe.

Its much deeper than Oscar, the people are fed up with all the bullshit that is going on,this is the straw that breaks the camel back.People are hurting with the high cost of living, instead of promoting eat what we grow and grow what we eat, they bring cable to show a diffrent life style and the people cannot afford it.When England wanted sugar she beat and flog for us grow cane to produce it,how comes we have to import sugar, the brains here are frozen monkey sees monkey does. The gang of 17 should be working the prison land producing food for the nation,Tilly thinks that these bastards, murders, good for nothing care about him or Grenadians well he will soon find out.Until people start to think for themselves here in Grenada we will be in this sad state.

johnny be good, good question about why people did not protest about the hiring of gang of 17.as you know, grenadians are reasonably peaceful people and we do not usually take to the streets.the last time we demonstrated on a large scale was during the arrest of bishop.but you know, the human body and mind can only keep things inside for so long.as i understand, these police acts of brutality have been going on for a long time.look at the arab uprising.these people were oppressed for decades,if not centuries.all it took was for one man in tunisia to set himself on fire to protest hardships, and the rest is history.back to grenada,it took the life of a visitor(still grenadian)for people to rise up and show awareness that we have a serious problem in grenada.hopefully oscar would not have lost his life in vain.
