PRIME MINISTER VISITS WITH OSCAR BARTHOLOMEW'S WIFE
ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, 4 JANUARY, 2012_ Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has assured Mrs. Dolette Bartholomew, the widow of Oscar Bartholomew, who died as a result of an incident at a police station in St. David on Boxing Day, that his office will ensure that the investigation into the death of her husband will be thorough, complete and professional. The Prime Minister gave the assurance to Mrs. Bartholomew and other members of her husband’s family during a meeting at their home in Grand Anse, on Wednesday evening, Mr. Thomas, who is also responsible for National Security, extended his condolences to the family and said he was “greatly saddened” at the incident. “This is a regrettable tragedy and a painful experience for you, for his extended family and for all of us in Grenada. Our first priority is to ensure that the investigation is transparent and that justice prevails,” the Prime Minister told Mrs. Bartholomew, who was accompanied by her lawyer, Derick Sylvester. “We will take all the necessary steps to ensure, if at all possible, that this situation is never repeated in Grenada,” the Grenadian leader told Mrs. Bartholomew, acknowledging that the wide spread publicity given to the death of her husband has affected Grenada’s image as a law abiding country where the rights of people are respected. “I have many friends in Grenada and we came here for a visit with family and friends, not for this. All I want to see is justice,” Mrs. Bartholomew told the Prime Minister. The Grenadian leader has called for a review of the policy governing persons held in police custody, to ensure that they are treated appropriately.

Johnny be Good well said and those are the kind of discussions the average grenadians have to participate in for us to see any progress, but when a friend comes they take him for the enemy and vice versa. Here the gang of 17 never even had the any remorse, they didnot give up the bodies of our love ones, where is the moral outrage Tilly?where is the moral outrage Grenadian?guess they have short memory.Johnny be good I ask myself the same questions, why will grown people still living with their parents?well maybe they afraid to fail on their own, maybe its harder to gossip, because responsibility doesnot give you that luxury or maybe their mental state is in that infant state and infants need to be taken care of.However it is sad to see people that donot get it,donot want to think outside the box and and so gullible.Johnny be Good, even when they travel they want to live for free when their family, and start to hate when the family member ask them to contribute its such a sad state, but you have the right ideas and if you and others can reach more people,I guess we may see some changes, the politicans will not and have no intention of helping the crabs in the barrel mentality has been here for to long.

while it is fair to say that each contributor on this site comes with something fresh about their concerns and remedy as to our current problems past and present here in grenada it is also fair to say that we should not get away from the issues at hand and that is a grenadian visitor was killed while in a police station, and there has to be some serious investigation starting from the top and includes thoes who are responsible for law and order in our country for no one is above the law in our country and that includes past and present prime ministers and in doing so we as a people should not be going back on old stories ,we have to move forward and while i agree with some of the setiments of Jonny be Good and others we as grenadians have to wake up and acknowlege that there are things happening in our country that needs to be address today for the sake of law and order and decency we have got to go back to family values where we show respect to one another ,where the young show respect to the old and the old to the young for currently our country is heading to the pits ,for we are murdering each other for nothing ,our law enforcers are themselves guilty of serious criminalties, some of our own politicans should have been in jail for the way in which they ran our country yes we have got to wake up for the sake of decency and respectability otherwise we may end up like Trinidad AND Jamaica a countries of lawlessness ,yes we have to wake up. one love

I am still in awe to see how Grenadians have come out in droves to support the wife and family of the murdered Oscar Bartholomew. My question now is this: What's it that motivated the people to come out in such great numbers to demonstrate against the behaviors and attack from members of the RGPF? Were they acting out morally and ethically? If one man's death serves as the catalyst for such mass vigil and demonstration, why the hiring, protection and government financing of the lifestyles of the Gang 17 generated such similar support? Littleboy, Royr, Norie, Stallion, The Observer, Sam, Karen and other contributors, guests and frequent visitors, can you please help me to understand the logic behind all this?

The Observer, I like your piece on the Grenada Independence issue. However, I would like to add my feel to it: have you ever consider why grown men and women 25 years and older are still living at home with their parents-mmammy and daddy? Have you tried to figure out why their parents will not even attempt to force them to go out on their own? Have you considered why those same grown men and women will live in their parents' homes up to the age of 60+, have grown ass children or grand children, never held a job and their children and grand children will all live under the same roof and following the same life's cycle-will do nothing different to better their social, educational and economic conditions? Well, here are my answers: 1. Most of them inherited and are conditioned to that same social and life structure. 2. Nobody took the time to help them learn another way living. 3. That's all they've ever seen and know. 4. That's the environment they grew up in and all they have been exposed to. 5. They really don't know what it means to grow up, become independent, self sufficient and learn how to do for yourself. 6. The parents and grand parents love the family life structure because they all like to be in control of each other. 7. They want to make that somebody is controlling somebody. For example, don't your brothers and sister-grown ass adults with their families still expect you to support and finance their way through life? I use this scenario to explain the relationship between our country and Great Britain. Out leaders, politicians and many of our people are like the parents, grand parents and children as is mention above. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth likes to be in control. Gairy, Blaize, Brizan, Brathwaite, Ben Jones, Keith Mitchell, Tillman Thomas and those prior to them with the exception of our slaughter and scapegoated lamb, Maurice Bishop, like the arrangement. They can go to or call upon Mother HM Queen Elizabeth for crumbs of the able to feed the hungry, lazy and dependent asses who are refusing t branch out on their own and do what is necessary for themselves. Our leaders know the control Britain has and like it because they too can exercise the same control over us. Bishop attempted to change that. He offered and ensured from young to old had the opportunity to learn, so that they too can become self sufficient. He wanted all of us to be independent beings so that shackles and chains can be broken. Unfortunately, we did not want that. We are too used to relying on others to do for us what we can do for ourselves. In the process, he asked us to make sacrifices. We did not want o do that. Therefore, we allow the Gang 17 to viciously, barbarically and with no regards for human rights murder him and his cabinet. Coard, Hudson, Leon Cornwall, Ventura, Prime, Strachan and others murdered Bishop, the Bain brothers, Creft and hundreds of others who played key roles in building and bettring their communities-throughout Grenada. And we continue to excuse those vicious attacks and murders. We sat idly by and allow our government to employ and include them in the running of our country. Something has got to be wrong with Grenadians.

Norie, Royr and Johnny be Good, let's examine our predicament: First, I would like you to go back and carefully research who were directly involved in requesting independence for Grenada, what they benefited from it and the effects it continues to have on the general population. Our nation is not an independent country. We're not self sufficient and in control of our destiny. As you look back at history, you will understand why we celebrate Carnival each year. The birth of carnival came about simply because the Queen and plantation owners wanted pacify the slaves so that they'd not revolt and cause disturbances on the plantations. They were allowed two days per year to make fools of themselves, and then return back to the normal routines of slavery. Independence is being used in similar fashion to avoid an uproar against our abusers, including Mother Africa.
