GOVERNMENT DELGATION MEETS WITH GBL AND TAWU
St. George's, Grenada; Thursday 12th January, 2012_Prime Minister Tillman Thomas today headed a three member Ministerial team in meetings with representatives of the Grenada Breweries Limited and the Technical and Allied Workers Union. The two separate meetings are designed to bridge the gap between the two parties in the ongoing industrial impasse at the Grenada Breweries. This morning GBL representatives, including Chairman Andrew Sabga, Dr. Partrick Antoine, Ron Antoine – General Manager of the Grenada Breweries and lawyer Deighton Mitchell, met with the Prime Minister, Minster for Finance Nazim Burke and Minister of State with responsibility for Information and Mobilisation, Senator Glen Noel. “The meeting was substantive, cordial and respectful. The Breweries delegation thanked the Prime Minister for his invitation and welcomed his involvement in the process,” said Sen. Noel. This afternoon the Prime Minister and his team met with TAWU representatives, including President General Senator Chester Humphrey, Bert Patterson, Andre Lewis, Trevor Xavier and shop stewards of the union at the breweries. The Prime Minister welcomed the TAWU delegation and outlined his administration’s position on the impasse.

The Enlightener and Stallion, as much as I would blame PM Tillman Thomas for not taking a more bold and aggressive action to curb corruption in the different ministries, I would not dare hold him totally responsible. He has a group of advisers who are ill-equipped to help correct the wrongs that are plaguing the country's economy. Aaron Moses and his inner circle of the PM advisers should be more aware of what is going on in each ministry and able to assist the PM in developing a plan of act to address those issues. And Yes, Permanent Secretary of Agriculture Aaron Francois has demonstrated unethical behaviors regarding the theft of the country's cocoa plants. We need to protect the Whistle Blowers within our government ministries who will defiantly risk their lives to protect the country resources. The friend of Aaron Francois sold 200 cocoa plants. He pocketed the money of 180 plants and turned over the money of 20 plants to the revenue department. If such low level worker can do such a thing, can you imagine what is happening at the top? Aaron Francois, as head of the department, why did you see it fitting to fire the guy who stood up and said enough is enough...you can't be robbing the country like that? Aaron Francois threatened to and tried to transfer the Whistle Blower. Did Aaron get part of that money? Help me out here gentlemen? Would you all join me and call for a full investigation?

I do agree Hon Tillman Thomas would not know every thing, however; if he was serious about the office of PM he would have dealt with those who have abused their office, in so doing the others would have taken note. No one will forget the incident with senator Arlie Gill and the Tempo fiasco over the use of the National Stadium when, he (PM)was asked about it his reply was: This is a private matter. What a disgrace and an abuse of the resources of the state which he condone and yet continue to boast his government is transparent. But now you hearing from the PM that his Government is acquiring the Grand Beach hotel from Lewis Hamilton the former no.1 formula one driver for it was given away by the NNP. Is the PM accusing Hamilton of involving in corruption with the former Government. Why is he attacking another foreign investor? What the PM fail to realize and he is a Lawyer the transaction with Hamilton was LEGAL. His former Attorney General told him so but no he dont care if Grenada suffer, so long as it was done by NNP, it was corrupt. Its a big shame for there is no serious foreign investment in the country at this time, WHY? I will outline next time.

And Gabe, don't get me wrong...Tillman Thomas is not fully aware of everything that goes on out there in field and should not be blamed at times. However, he has advisors including Aaron Moses who need to be surfing the field and informing the PM of challenges out there that need addressing. Grenada is too small a country to manage and root out corruption. In December 2011, one farmer went to purchase plants. The attending employee gave the farmer 200 plants but documented on paper/receipt that he sold the farmer 20 cocoa plants. Another employment saw the descrepancy and addressed it. The complaining employee was then reported to Aaron Francois, Permanent Secretary in Ministry of agriculture. Aaron then punished the whistleblowing employee for reporting the employee who pocketed the extra money charged for the unreported 180 plants. Apparently, the thieving employee is said to be a close colleague of Permanent Secretary of Agriculture, Francois.
