BOWEN CALLS FOR ACTION TO LIBERALIZE THE SUPPLY OF ELEC...
Former energy minister, Gregory Bowen, is calling upon the Tillman Thomas administration to follow up an existing OECS initiative which is aimed at liberalizing the supply of electricity, with a view toward reducing the heavy burden on home owners and businesses. According to Sen. Bowen during his period in office, Grenada spearheaded the sub-regional project broadly aimed at liberalizing public utilities, and that the successful de-monopolization of the telecommunications market was one of the outcomes of this scheme which brought significant benefits to the people in the form of lower costs and improved services. Mr. Bowen, a professional and successful manager with an engineer background, is advising the general public that the cost of energy is the single most critical factor affecting the economy and businesses in Grenada and that persistent high electricity bills also place a heavy burden on home owners. He says that the fledgling manufacturing industry and the already strained hotel industry, as well as businesses in general, are being negatively affected by high energy costs and that this threatens their viability and the level of jobs they can sustain. Export-related businesses are put at risk since energy is a significant component of the cost of production and the existing high cost regime for electricity would make their products uncompetitive in the regional and international markets. When the NNP was in Government it took the lead in the public utilities liberalization project as a major strategy to lower prices and improve competitiveness of the region in attracting foreign and local direct investments. Among the objectives were to spur economic growth and create jobs, thereby increasing the standard of living of the people of the sub region. They acted with the conviction that more sources and players will result in a reduction in cost and increased sales for providers as well as increase competitiveness in attraction of overseas investors – the outcome being the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique and the rest of the sub-region reaping significant benefits as a result of lower costs and an improved environment for doing business. Mr. Bowen, is also expressing concern with regard to the terms and conditions of the sale the electricity company by the NDC government in 1994. He said that the terms and conditions were so bad that they are haunting the people of Grenada today. He specifically referred to the granting of 74-year monopoly, and the removal of the then-existing regulatory framework. He says that in light of this situation very urgent action is required if the other regional territories are not to leave Grenada behind.

Gabe don't be fooled. Bowen cares nothing about Grenada or the Grenadian people. He cares about his own agenda, his pocket book, and making money for himself. He wants votes next election so he is attempting to fool us into beleiving the nonsense of his. Notice I said attempting to fool someone, because he may fool you, but he cannot fool me. Littleboy is on the money.

Brother Gabe you need to get your head together. Bowen is a fool and he was the manager of that electric company, and I want the world to know that. Do you remember the days when currant gone, currant gone, currant down more than its in use. These were the days when the company was under the management of that stupid idiot Bowen. It was a failed company with failed policies and shoddy management by some idiots who had no idea what they were doing. He says he is an engineer. He may be that but he sure eh no manager to me and these are the people of Keith Mitchel and his goverment that you want to vote for and bring back again. Don't you remember an American purhased the company and made changes and now we have stability and electricity without failure with a company that is properly managed the way it should be. Black man can't do that eh. All these fellows can do is tief, tief and more tief and lie. Look at all the past history with Keith Mitchel and his past goverments. You have to get your head together. Imagine when you vote and put dem back in dey whey you go get, but you kno what, I go say allu deserve what you get because allu too stupid. Boy I always go be ok but like ah say allu deserve what allu get.

Bro Littleboy please go easy on the brother senator Bowen for he is only the messanger for it now appears tha the opposition is looking for issues that when one look back these same issues should have been dealt with by the then government when they were in power for if what he is now saying that he has the concern of our people at heart (strange)when his government allowed 13 years under their rule to pass without rectifing this wrong that was done as he says by the then Tillman Thomas way bac in 1994 so why is the senator raising such matter now and is it more to do with electioneering or real concern for the wellfare of our grenadian people at this time,we shall see.

Bowen is a born loser. He was manager in charge of that electric company. He says he is engineer, what kind of engineer. I know engineers who clean the streets and do a better job than that clown. Remember all the failures with that company with electric service just like India. Currant gone every fifteen minutes of the day with more down time than up time, and HE BOWEN WAS THE DONKEY MANAGER IN CHARGE OF ALL THE FAILURES AND HE DIDN'T HAVE THE ABILITY OR COMMON SENSE TO RECTIFY ANY OF THE PROBLEMS. Now the old fool is gone, and the company sold to an American firm. Services are improved and it is managed runs like a real proper company ought to, and that dam donkey now wants to liberalize electricity. This is a new one. What an idiot? And that is a future leader for Grenada. Lord have mercy.
