STATEMENT BY PRIME MINISTER TILLMAN THOMAS
1. I make this statement in my Constitutional capacity as Prime Minister and as Political Leader of the National Democratic Congress, in response to a Press Release issued yesterday, Sunday, by the PRO of the NDC. As Political Leader of the NDC, I am able to say that Mr. Gill’s release was issued without my knowledge and approval. 2. While it is true that political parties contest elections and that victory enables a party to form a Government, the provisions of the Constitution of Grenada are supreme in every respect. Accordingly, once a Government has been formed, that Government owes a duty of accountability to the electorate and the public. The party has no such obligation. 3. The NDC Constitution is very clear on the relationship between Government and party. It stipulates that “an NDC Government must pay regard to the views of its party”. Clearly, it does not allow for the Government to be directed or instructed by the party in its DECISION-MAKING. The obligation is to give consideration to proposal made by the party. 4. It would be a case of indifference and down-right disrespect for a Government NOT TO ACCOUNT to the people after four years of SERVICE. How could any self-respecting Government prefer to hide from the people and merry itself at this time in a Cook-up, fun and games, instead of reporting on its stewardship? There will off course be opportunities for this kind of event but July 8th is not a fitting day for such. 5. The public needs to hear from the Government on its Anniversary. Anything short of this would amount to disrespect for the culture and the people. 6. I do not propose to attend to the issue of the unfortunate division affecting the NDC at this time, as evidenced by the statement put out by Mr Gill, as PRO of the NDC. For the present purposes, I will limit myself to say that it is inconsistent, intriguing, dishonest and lacking in good sense and sound judgment. 7. The Party created by the founding fathers of the NDC is one steeped in Parliamentary Democracy. The NDC has no CENTRAL COMMITTEE. 8. Government is faced with many pressing issues of national importance. At the present time, our primary focus is on ensuring that we have a successful Carnival and that we make progress in addressing the existing financial and economic difficulties. 9. The Government will have a major presentation in Gouyave on Sunday, under the theme “PRODUCING OUR WAY TO PROSPERITY”. Our call is to serve the people. Our duty is to be obedient to that call. Our task is to build a better Grenada for all.

Gabe we have to beware of conmen like Pastor Winston Garraway and company. Things are already in a sad situation which was set in motion by the devil himself Keith Mitchel. Do we want to back to disaster? Lets not forget we are in this situation because of his stupid methods and it will take time with this economic downtown to clean things up, but Tilly is on the right track. Get rid of all the bad apples within the party. If you can't stick with us and our principles then its best we part company. We know all the bad ones

Bro Vondel please dont give up on your country our country my country for it is the youth who will in the end that will have to clean grenada up if we allow these back sliding no good prospectors that called themselves politicans, when in fact what they are all about is me,me,me and me ,and this is where i agrees with some of the posting of the pastor in parts for yes we have to clean up the political mentality of some of our politicans for example some of the go abroab to study in most cases to be Lawyers and economics then come back to grenada and go straight into politics without no experience of the basic principles of politics and its codes of conduct/behaviour and these are some of the reasons why we find ourselves in this position with these fly by night politicans in it for their egoes.

The time has come when those of us who say that we are for Grenada will put down our political hats and stand up for Grenada. A midst all the public fighting between the Prime Minister Hon Tillman Thomas and his party the NDC, it is hurting the prospect of the country going forward. I want the contributors of Grenadian Connection to consider these which I will call Bad Public Relations (BPR) for Grenada. 1. Our young people we are working hard to develop as leaders for the future are confused by the leaders of the Government. We have been teaching them conflict resolution. What an example they are getting from the leaders, a total opposite to what we have been teaching them. 2. This open conflict is having a direct effect on the country's economy and its ability to attract foreign investors. As a matter of fact, the president of the chamber of industry and commerce said some businesses have some money to invest but will not invest at this time because, the instability in government is creating a lack of confidence. 3. Banks have reserved in excess of 3 billion dollars but will not give loans because the economic climate caused by the infighting within the Government is of serious concern. 4. Many families are loosing their homes as a result of the high unemployment rate. 5. Many Government and Statutory employees are yet to receive their May and June salaries. When will we stop for a while and consider the Country and its people who are hurting as a result of this public melee. Which ever side of the NDC one may choose to support will not make the other side wrong and even if your side is correct what will that do for the country? It might have been a little more acceptable if it was against the opposition but against the same men and women who came together and won the hearts of the majority of Grenadians in the last elections to turn around and tear them apart asking them to take a side could never be right.I call on everyone: Lets put Grenada FIRST
