Special Info  Sandra Bernadette Thomas Holder was born to deceased parents Maud Calliste and Leonard Thomas on November 14th 1956 in the village of Mt. Carmel, St. Andrew’s. As a child she attended the St. Gillies Anglican Primary School, and upon successful completion of the School Leaving Exams, she moved on to the Grenada Technical and Vocational Institute in Tanteen, St. Georges, and was later employed at the Silver Sands Hotel. On July 21, 1976 Sandra and her High school sweet heart William Marshall also deceased, gave birth to a precious baby boy who they named Nigel Thomas. But Sandra wanted more for herself and her family. In 1980, after working for the Cunard cruise line, she migrated to the US in pursuit of the American Dream, a better life for herself, family and her son Nigel. Once she was settled here in the US she sent for Nigel to join her. But she did not stop there. She ensured to convince her sisters Gwendolyn and Janice, brother Rondie and other family members to also relocate to the United States. Sandra did not look out for only herself but for everyone she knew and loved. As a child her son would note that our house was like a refugee camp. But Sandra believed in doing for others and helping family. Sandra later met and fell deeply in love with fellow Grenadian Richard OP Holder. They were in fact inseparable and later got married on November 8th 1997. Although their union produced no children, they both had children from previous relationships and welcomed each other’s children as their own and even adopted little Kelene in Grenada. For those of you, who knew Sandra knew she was a lady. A lady who radiated class, sophistication, flair, poise, confidence and spunk…the list goes on. She loved life!!! Every year she looked forward to the Grenada Independence Dance, she just loved to dance, at any party just look for the two index fingers pointed in the air and there you would find Sandra. She also looked forward to SAASS’ BBQ, her church’s fund raisers and a host of other activities. She was indeed a loyal daughter of the soil. Sandra was famous among family and friends for her annual Thanksgiving Dinner, especially her infamous lasagna just ask Allina!!! She loved entertaining, and used every opportunity to host a cook- up or BBQ. Only a few weeks ago although sick pulled out all the stops to host what turned out to be her last BBQ. For those who visited her during the Christmas holidays knew of her fabulous Christmas tree…. She definitely put MACYS to shame. Sickness did not stop Sandra!!! If you could not find Sandra at home then chances are she and her partner in crime and best friend Petra was out and about. She wanted flowers in the backyard; she got up and planted them. If the driveway was not swept to her fancy she went out and attempted to do it herself. Many times her neighbor John had to chase her away when she tried to sweep both their driveways. Whatever, tasks or duties Sandra undertook, she did it with pride. Although in pain she managed to accomplish things we couldn’t. Her sense of style was filled with pure elegance not to mention her passion for interior decorating; she definitely had that Martha Stewart eye!! She was a woman of many talents. Nigel once said, maybe she should become an investment banker because she certainly knew how to turn a quarter into fifty cents. But I believe she will be remembered most for her humanity and the way she treated others. Strangers felt welcomed in her presence. The medical staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering, John Hopkins, and New York Presbyterian all fell in love with “Ms. Holder”. They all became extended family members. Then again, this was typical Sandra, creative, determined, stubborn. But most of all, loving. Left to continue her legacy, her son Nigel Thomas and her adopted daughter Kelene Holder. Brothers, Ross “Stumpy” Calliste, Rondie Calliste and Lenny Thomas. Sisters, Gwendolyn Vincent, Janice Thomas and Gracelyn Thomas. Aunts, Agatha Gayle and Marjorie Hercules. Many nieces and nephews including Allina Isaac, Daylian , Dahlia, Kizzy, Sabrina, Melissa, Jada, Tricia, and Rena Thomas , June Thomas, Yvette and Velda Calliste, Nicole and Nicolette Hercules and Kinda Williamson. Nephews, Darnell Thomas, Delroy, Anthus Thomas, Andy Isaac, Steven Calliste, Anthony Calliste, Rondie Jr. Alton Calliste Paul Hinkson Jr. and Emrol Cadoo. Sister in law to Delroy Thomas, Ann Calliste, Melissa Calliste and Wilbur Rapier. Godmother to Leon Sampson A host of cousins including Hensley, Louisa, Myrtle, Theodore, Francis and Karen.
