NNP CONCERNED ABOUT WORKERS AT MBIA

The New National Party thinks that the use of clerical workers and ground staff of LIAT from neighboring islands at the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) at this time is cause for concern and is making an urgent appeal to the Technical and Allied Workers’ Union (TAWU) and the Airport Authorities to move hurriedly to address the situation.

The New National Party is of the view that the workers at MBIA who are on a two-day sick-out should receive the full support of their elected representatives and is baffled at the apparent silence of the union at this time when LIAT employees from other islands are used to perform the shifts of local workers. It would seem that the local workers are left to fend for themselves.

We believe that all workers are entitled to effective and timely representation by their union representatives. In this regard, we urge workers to continue standing up for their rights as outlined in their collective bargaining instruments and at the same time, call for quicker, more aggressive and impartial representation from their union representatives.

From the New National Party
