Prime Minister Keith Mitchell welcomed the Head of the Organisation of American States (OAS) Electoral Observation Mission, Ambassador Corinne McKnight, to Grenada today (Tuesday, November 25).
A former Ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago to the USA, and former Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the OAS, Ambassador McKnight is leading a six-member Mission of international observers to monitor the election process in Grenada.
In welcoming Ambassador McKnight, Prime Minister Mitchell said he is most appreciative to the OAS for responding to the Government’s request for an observer mission, as was the case in the last election.
“We stand ready to provide all the support you and your team require to monitor and observe the entire process. We would not have asked for this Mission if we did not think the work of the team would be thorough and professional,” the Prime Minister said.
Ambassador McKnight, who was accompanied by local OAS representative Mr. Francis McBarnette, told the Prime Minister that she is happy to be in Grenada and has received a warm welcome.
The other members of the Electoral Observation Mission are scheduled to arrive today. They are Bart Roger of London, Albert Fiadjoe and Mersada Elcock of Barbados, Bruce Rickerson of the USA and Rita Seraphin of Dominica.
