GRENADA PM SAYS REPORTS OF NNP'S POOR SHOWING NOT TRUE

Prime Minister and political leader of the New National Party Dr. Keith Mitchell says a talked-about recent poll commissioned by his organization cannot be published because it was done solely for internal analysis.

Dr. Mitchell said the poll cannot be published because it does not accurately reflect the strength of his party.

The Grenadian leader explained that the poll only surveyed polling divisions that were marginal in the last general elections to indicate how the NNP was doing.

“Clearly if you conduct a survey on the marginal polling stations, whatever result comes out, you must add percentage points for your own popularity to indicate you true strength,” he told a media conference here Tuesday.

Prime Minister Mitchell noted that some of the areas where the party’s support is strongest such as in his home village of Happy Hill and that of River Sallee in St. Patrick’s East, were excluded from the poll.

“What we have found out though is that the opposition is in poor standing. If the opposition cannot come close to you in the marginal areas, then they are in a lot of trouble,” he said.

“Don’t worry, the NNP is safe and sound,” the Grenadian leader said.

He said media reports indicating that NNP only showed up well in three constituencies were “figments of the imagination.”
