NNP PERSPECTIVE - YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

YOUTH

The Ministry of Youth, with special interest, is cognizant of the prominent and essential role our young people – the future torch-bearers of this nation. The Ministry has undertaken its duty with full commitment to enlighten empower and protect our young people accordingly.

The IMANI Programme which is designed to provide job training has been revised and continues to offer opportunity and hope to hundreds of young men and women throughout the island. This programme will also be expanded to include a Certified Skills Training Programme. As a result Grenada stands to benefit from many more young people being equipped for the world of work as they ready themselves to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Caribbean Single Market and Economy.

The reconstruction of the Grand Bacolet Youth Rehabilitation Center is intended to be a permanent home for youth in conflict with the Law. There are other means of dealing with the issue of juvenile delinquency. The Department of Youth Development continues to meet with deviant youth in various parts of the country and has been engaging them in anger management sessions and other programmes to address the issue of Conflict Resolution.

The Department intends to continue to work with young parents through its Young Parents Support Programme. This initiative provides opportunity to hundreds of parents with academic classes as well as classes in personal development and skills areas. An After School Programme will be providing mentorship and guidance to youth throughout the nation. It is important to note that work is to begin with the Youth Development Center in Morne Rouge Grand Anse.

The Government continues to undertake the myriad of challenges in its commitment to deliver betterment to all Grenadians.
