Toronto, Canada. Wednesday, 21 November 2007.

Three barrels of food and toys are leaving Toronto this week destined to support children and families in Grenada this Christmas season. The items, valued at more than $800, were donated by Grenadians and friends of Grenada in a campaign spearheaded by NDC Toronto.

"Some people donated cash. Others gave in-kind donation like dolls, hand games, pens, pencils, exercise books, peanut butter, rice, milk and other canned items,'' said Thomas Pierre, Vice-Chairman of NDC. "We are deeply appreciative of all the donations.''

The food and toy drive is the first major project of the NDC Toronto, which was formed in September. It's a support group of the National Democratic Congress, the official opposition party of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique.

Although initiated by NDC Toronto and to be coordinated in Grenada by NDC officials, Pierre emphasized that the items will be distributed to all Grenadians, regardless of their political affiliation.” This is something all of us in the party, including leader Tillman Thomas, have agreed to,'' said Pierre, who will be visiting Grenada for Christmas. While there, he will assist with the distribution of the items.

"We thank everyone in Toronto who assisted us, including Keith Greenidge of Greenidge Home Services and Anthony Vincent of Grenada Freight Services for procuring the barrels for us and handling the shipping to Grenada.''

Pierre said most of NDC Toronto's projects in the New Year will be geared to helping the National Democratic Congress in Grenada, where a general election is expected to be held in 2008.

"Cash donations to the National Democratic Congress,'' said Pierre, "can be made through NDC Toronto at any branch of Royal Bank.''
