INSIDE GRENADA
JANUARY 17, 2008
by Wallace J.A

ST.ANDREW’S: Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell, along with other members of a high-profile team, paid a visit to the rural communities of Mt. Horne and Mirabeau yesterday (Wednesday January 16) as part of a St. Andrew’s North West Constituency tour. Scores of villagers turned out to listen to Dr. Mitchell as well as to their Caretaker, Mrs. Delma Thomas, and other members of the NNP team. Their addresses to the villagers were carried live on REAL FM.

Mrs. Delma Thomas, the NNP Caretaker for the constituency, welcomed the very lively crowds to the meetings and spoke about the New National Party’s active involvement in St.Andrew’s North West over the years, pointing to a number of projects that were undertaken and completed by the government, such as the Mt. Horne Mini Stadium, the Pole Bus Shelter, roads, drainage and housing among others.

The farmers were informed that very soon, repair and rehabilitation work will commence on farm roads, which will make it easier for them to gain access to their lands. She urged the people to let the progress continue and to put their full support behind the party that has been there for them over the years.

In addressing the crowd of excited villagers, Dr. Mitchell spoke about the level of progress and development that the country has experienced under the New National Party (NNP) administration, both before and after the onslaughts of Hurricanes Ivan and Emily. He mentioned the excellent track record of the NNP in dealing with crises, developing the nation’s human resource and stimulating economic growth and development.

Dr. Mitchell also spoke about the substantial investments that are about to take place in the country and explained to the listeners what that meant for the country in terms of job opportunities and increased economic growth. He spoke about the government’s commitment to assist the poor and vulnerable, to help ease the pressures brought on by the high cost of living that the entire region is experiencing and encouraged people to take advantage of available opportunities to develop themselves, such as the opportunities provided by the Grenada Training and Employment Project (GTEP).

Mr. Stalin Romain, who was the NNP Coordinator in the constituency during the period immediately after Hurricane Ivan, addressed the villagers and asked them to give their full support to Mrs. Delma Thomas, as he has done, because she is capable of providing excellent representation for the people of St. Andrew’s North West. He lauded the NNP for all the work done in the constituency over the years and appealed to the people to continue giving their support to the NNP and work along with the party so that the progress can continue.

In a very short but impressive and entertaining speech, one of the villagers, Mr. Augustus George, informed the gathering at Mt. Horne that all major developments in the area, from land distribution to housing to infrastructure, would have taken place under an NNP administration. He reaffirmed his full support for the political party and urged everyone present to do likewise so that the progress can continue.
