The opposition National Democratic Congress, buoyed by huge crowd turnouts at recent events, is still trying to increase its support base and is urging ongoing monitoring of the election registration process.

Executive members of the party have expressed confidence in an NDC victory when the polls are called by Dr. Keith Mitchell, the Prime Minister and leader of the governing New National Party.

Dennis Lett, the NDC Member of Parliament, has said that the NNP is worried about having to go the poll.

According to Lett, "very soon'' there'll be change in Grenada with the NDC forming the government. "But please do not be complacent,'' Lett told a group of NDC supporters in St. Andrew. "Be on your guards. See that your brothers and sisters are registered and comb the voters' list.''

The NDC has frequently complained of deficiency and tardiness in compiling and updating the voters' list.

"Take nothing for granted and monitor the situation night and day so that there'll be no corruption in the running of this election,'' Lett said.

Peter David, NDC MP for the Town of St. George, said his party welcomes new members and supporters, including people who previously backed organization such as the Grenada United Labour Party, the People's Labour Movement and the NNP.

At the February 17 candidacy launch of Sylvester Quarless in St. Andrew South-West, his platform guests and supporters included Lloyd St. Louis, a retired Magistrate and former GULP Senator.

"Many persons voted for the NNP in the last election and in 1999 because they believed Keith Mitchell when he said he was going to do something good for Grenada,'' said David, NDC General Secretary.

"But it is good to see that after 2003, many of them now understand that in order to move Grenada forward, we must vote the NDC into government at the next elections.''
