PRIME MINISTER DEBUNKS CRISIS OF CONFIDENCE CLAIMS

ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, JANUARY 21st, 2010_ Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has brushed aside opposition claims that his government is facing a “crisis of confidence” among investors.

The Prime Minister pointed to several instances where his government was partnering with foreign investors to raise international financing to start-up or complete projects that were stalled due to the global financial crisis.

“There are projects where the proposed start date has slipped and the government had the right to take certain steps, but we did not do that. Instead, we have continued our support for these projects and are working along with the developers to attract funding for these projects. So where is this crisis of confidence,” the Prime Minister asked.

The Grenadian leader said that the perception of a crisis of confidence was “imagined” by those who wished to see the government fail. “They have created their own prophesy of doom and gloom and are now working to make it come to pass by using these pronouncements,” the Prime Minister said.

He noted that while the government welcomed foreign investors and has created the environment for attracting them, the government is also responsible for ensuring that investment was good for both the investor and Grenadians as well.

The Prime Minister said his government is working to ensure investors received a return on their investment, while protecting the interest and heritage of Grenadians.
