GRENADA’S OPPOSITION LEADER SHARES RESCUE PLAN FOR GRENADA AND RECEIVES EMOTIONAL WELCOME IN ONTARIO

Toronto, Ontario, September 27, 2010 - Grenada’s former Prime Minister and current Opposition Leader, Dr. Keith C. Mitchell, was warmly welcomed in Ontario, Canada by Grenadians and friends of Grenada residing in the area.

Dr. Keith C. Mitchell, who led Grenada through thirteen years of peace, stability and progress, attended the Grenada Day celebrations and held a town hall meeting to update nationals and friends of Grenada on the political, economic and social climate in Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique at this point in time.

Many of the Grenadian Nationals commented that they were overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and reaching out that both Canadians and Grenadians provided for Dr. Mitchell. The list of those who welcomed Dr. Mitchell included Hon. Dr. Jean Augustine, the first Caribbean born to be awarded the Order of Canada; His Worship George A. Griffith, past High Commissioner of Grenada to Canada; Mr. Michael Viechweg, former Consul General of Grenada in Toronto; Conrad Gibbs, former Consul General of Grenada in Toronto and Mr. Peter Cline, a prominent Barrister and Solicitor in Toronto.

In his presentation at the Ellas Banquet Hall, Dr. Mitchell outlined the numerous “broken promises” of the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration led by Prime Minister Tillman Thomas. He maintained consistency with his position in New York by attributing most of the hardships and problems in the country to the NDC’s broken promises resulting in Grenadians and investors losing confidence in their leadership. He offered evidence of the NDC‘s incompetent governance, victimization of citizens and fighting within its ranks. He repeatedly reminded attendees of a need for a “new rescue plan” to address the “pain and suffering” facing Grenadians.

Dr. Mitchell also offered key elements of his New National Party’s rescue plan for Grenada which include reducing the size of Government, reducing VAT, reducing taxes, stopping the politics of spite hate and victimization, stopping the misuse of the police force and legal system, restoring relief programs for the indigent and elderly citizens, restoring soft loans for fishermen, farmers and young people and restoring the welcome climate for investors.

Dr Mitchell urged supporters to continue their support for the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique. He admonished nationals and friends to focus their attention and energies on restoring “…a new sense of confidence and hope” for investors and for the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique. Throughout the events he attended, Dr. Mitchell made time to socialize and sample food and drinks. He was almost constantly circled by those who wanted to talk, hug and shake hands with him.
