STATEMENT FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRIME MINISTER

ST. GEORGE, GRENADA, 9th OCTOBER, 2012_The Prime Minister is utterly dismayed at the reckless, disturbing and irresponsible remarks made by the Leader of the Opposition during NNP’s rally last Sunday, touching upon the development of bilateral relations with Qatar.

The public will recall that the Prime Minister in his address to the Nation on August 2, 2012, told citizens that he had been invited to pay a visit to Qatar. He intimated his expectation that such a visit held the potential for assistance to Grenada to meet its development needs. That was the extent of his treatment of the matter. Since then, no other public statement has been made by the Prime Minister, or any other member of the Government, that would support the words used and the intention disclosed by Dr Mitchell at his party’s rally.

The Prime Minister is of the view that the comments made by the Leader of the Opposition, driven by a narrow political interest, may well have been deliberately intended to compromise the success of the mission. In this respect, Dr Mitchell’s utterances, to the entire world, can only be described as highly un-statesmanlike and downright unpatriotic.
