PARACLETE, St.Andrew – A cricket match between Idlers and Pressure Pumpers at the Paraclete Playing Field (Silver Arm) ended prematurely as a result of an altercation between two spectators off the field which escalated into an alleged shooting with at least one person injured.

The Pressure Pumpers were just starting their second innings when the fight broke out. One of the spectators was seen with an object resembling a cutlass ‘planassing’ another individual. It was at this time that the other spectators at the cricket match started running away from the area in panic, bringing the game to an abrupt end.

As the fight continued and spectators started to flee in every direction, a few loud sounds consistent to gunshots were heard. Shortly afterwards, one of the men involved in the fight -who was seen earlier on with the object resembling the cutlass – was seen walking out, escorted by two men. He was seen with a bandage around the waist area with a red stain resembling blood. He was placed on a vehicle and carried away. The injured man was taken to the Princess Alice Hospital at Mirabeau and then to the General Hospital. There were several plain-clothes police officers on the scene at the time of the incident.
