TUESDAY March 7, 2006: The workers from the National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA), Grenville branch, today commenced work at the St.Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (SAASS) with a view to rectify a water problem that the school has been experiencing for the past three weeks or so. Even though the school has storage tanks, somehow the water was not getting into them and the water in use at the school had to be carried in buckets.

SAASS is one of the larger schools on the island with a student population well in excess of seven hundred (700), Most of the students and teachers at the institution had to come to school with their drinking water from home. The unavailability of water at the school during the day has caused some concerns, especially with respect to the use of the toilet facilities and general sanitation.

Some of the residents of the village of Telescope claim that they have been experiencing a similar problem, in that the water comes only during the nighttime. It is believed that this situation has arisen out of a problem associated with one of the main pipes in the area.

The hard working men at NAWASA were seen today at the school compound running what seem to be 1-inch pipes from the main connection to the school. It is hoped that the water situation at the school will improve as soon as possible and that the students and staff will once again be able to conduct their work in an environment free from the inconveniences presently experienced.
