SAASS, Telescope, St.Andrew (14/03/06): Today was a very momentous day for the principal, staff and students of the St.Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School, SAASS. A high-powered team from the Ministry of Sports and Community Development, which included the likes of Hon. Roland Bhola, Minister for Sports and Community Development; his permanent secretary, Ms Sandy David; Community Development coordinator, Ms Ann Edwards and Area Education Officer, Ms. Patricia Felix, paid a visit to the school to formally hand over a concrete walkway / driveway that was constructed on the school grounds.

The project was executed as a collaborative effort between the SAASS Parent Teachers’ Association and the Ministry of Sports and Community Development. The entire school population gathered outside for a special assembly and the school’s choir serenaded those gathered with songs that aroused feelings of patriotism among many of those present at the function.

The Principal of the school, Ms. Joylyn Lyle and the President of the school’s PTA, Mr. Kingston Davis, thanked the Ministry and all those who contributed towards the successful realization of the venture. They both referred to the hardships that people experienced in earlier days when entering the school, especially when rain fell and outside became very muddy. They voiced their profound gratitude to everyone involved in bringing about the tremendous improvement in the school’s walkway and expressed hope that the relationship that exists will be a durable one that will bring other benefits to the school.

In addressing the gathering, Hon. Roland Bhola spoke to the students about how important it was to co-operate with each other and work towards achieving goals that can be of benefit to everyone. The special assembly ended with the cutting of the ribbons, which was done by Hon. Roland Bhola and Ms Sandy David.

Members of the media were present at the handing over ceremony.
