Free Eyes Check-Up for Grenadians
By Team Grenada
Grand Bras, St. Andrew’s ((March 15, 2006): Approximately 300 residents of the “Big Parish” St. Andrew’s turned up at the Grand Bras Medical Centre from early as five am this morning to seize the opportunity to have their eyes checked for free by visiting specialist from the USA and Canada.
This is an annual community project initiated some seven years ago by the Rotary Club of Grenada – East in conjunction with their sister Rotary Club in Michigan USA and Canada through a matching grant fund.
The team of approximately 20, including eye specialists and technicians conduct various eye tests and supply eye glasses depending on condition of the eyes. In some cases, eye surgery would be performed depending on the nature of the particular eye problem that they would encounter. According to officials of the Rotary Club East, approximately one thousand persons from Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique would benefit from the annual eye check this year.
The Rotarians welcome the contributions from the volunteers and also expressed their thanks to the Ministry Health, the Nursing Staff at the various clinics, and the Government for facilitating the various concessions for this project.
