GRENVILLE, St.Andrew’s (April 3, 2006): A teenage boy, Hercules Andrews, alias ‘Mash –up’, from the village of La Poterie, today made his first appearance at the Grenville magistrate’s court to answer a murder charge in connection with the death of a teenage girl, Skitter Edgar, also a La Poterie resident.

On January 9, 2006, the lifeless body of Skitter Edgar was found in her home at La Poterie by her brother. This caused quite a stir in the normally peaceful community as Skitter’s family, close friends and community members, and people from various parts of the country, tried to come to terms with the senseless murder.

The policemen launched what seemed to be a lengthy but thorough investigation into Skitter’s death, which resulted in the arrest of Hercules on Friday last. He was formally charged the next day and today, made his way to the courthouse under police escort to answer to the murder charge. Scores of curious people gathered outside the Grenville Magistrate’s court to get a glimpse of the murder accused. Many of the onlookers were shaking their heads in disbelief, while others were calling on the authorities to do something about the perceived upsurge in violence among young people.

Hercules Andrews was remanded at the Richmond Hill Prison and is due to make his next court appearance on April 24,2006.
