Key Strokes Announces Its Second Year of Community Computer Program.

LA DIGUE, St. Andrew’s (April 4, 2006): Key Strokes, a non-political and non-profit computer education and computer use programme established June 13, 2005 today announced its second year of operation. The methodology for the program was developed by Ms. Sherry Noel – Key Strokes Founder and Director. For last year’s program, 29 persons graduated with certification.

This year,Key Strokes will be collaborating with the Holy Innocent’s Anglican School in St. Andrew’s to implement the community-based program under the Digicel Caring Connections sponsorship.

The Digicel funded program is aimed at increasing computer literacy in the La. Digue Community and surrounding areas. The expectation is that this program will enable participants to acquire basic computer knowledge and skills within a structural and evaluable manner.

Under the Key Strokes Computer Programme, it is expected that 45 participants, aged 15 to 30 years old, will be recruited from 8 villages: La. Digue, Holy Innocent’s, Mt. St. Ervans, Richmond, Plaisance, Belle Vue, Union, and Deblandeau. These persons are deemed to benefit from this program since the knowledge and skills they are going to acquire will equip them with a necessary tool to get ahead and also to be competitive on the job market. It is hoped that the program would enhance learning, promote creativity and knowledge in computers. This is turn, will boost job security, work-force productivity and business growth as well as provide persons with sufficient technological skills to be competitive in the Caricom Single Market and Economy (CSME). Each person completing the program will receive a certificate of completion.

Programme activities include: Recruitment Meeting on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 4:30 p.m. Official launch will be on Thursday April 20th, 2006, while classes will begin from May 2nd, 2006. The programme is proposed to end for this year with a culminating ceremony in December 2006.

The Key Strokes executive body are: Sherry Tynisha Noel, MPH is the Program Director, Jacqueline Swapp is the Secretary, Justin Campbell, Egbert La. Geer and Lyndon St. Cyr are the facilitators.
