TELESCOPE, St.Andrew’s: On Thursday of last week (April 13, 2006), the Peters family of Telescope, St.Andrew’s lost their verandah and had their home rocked off its pillars as a result of a vehicular mishap.

A white truck, traveling up ‘Mc Donald’s Hill’ – the hill that leads to the Telescope Primary School when coming from Grenville – apparently lost power and rolled back down the hill, entering the Peters’ yard, destroying their verandah and shifting the house of its pillars. It is believed that the driver of the truck may have changed his gear too late and this would have contributed towards the unfortunate accident.

The daughter of Ms Peters revealed that she had just left the verandah to do something inside the house when the accident occurred. It is alleged that a child that she was baby-sitting (who was inside the house at the time of the accident) sustained knocks to the body from falling items created by the force of the impact to the house.

The driver of the ‘wayward’ truck made a promise to Ms Peters that he will take on the responsibility of doing the repairs to her damaged home and honored the commitment. On Saturday afternoon, around ten men were seen relocating the house on new pillars. It is estimated that the work should be completed by Sunday April 16, 2006.

It is interesting to note that this is not the first time an accident of this nature has occurred in that area, nor is it the first time that the company of the truck driver has had a situation involving a truck rolling backwards. Previously, it is alleged that a house on the opposite side of the road, belonging to Mr.Lodwin, sustained minor damages from a similar incident.
