LA FILLETTE, St.Andrew’s: Yesterday (April 22, 2006), the St.Andrew’s North West NNP Branch held their annual conference at the St.Mary’s RC School, located in La Fillette, St.Andrew’s. The conference commenced around 12:00 pm and ended around 5:30 pm.

Despite the fact that Saturday is a ‘shopping day’ for most people in Grenada, there were quite a lot of NNP supporters at the function, wearing their recognizable green party jerseys with a symbol of the house emblazoned at the front.

At the first session of the conference, which was a private session, an election was held to select a new constituency branch executive. The NNP co-ordinator for the area, Mr.Starlen Romain, was overwhelmingly elected as the chairman of this new executive branch. A number of other persons from within the district were elected to the different positions on this executive body.

Present at the function were Mrs. Clarice Charles, General Secretary of the NNP; Mr. Dwight Horsford, the Assistant General Secretary and Mrs. Emmalyn Pierre, the present caretaker for the St.Andrew’s SE constituency. They brought greetings to the NNP supporters at the conference and spoke about the way forward for the party.

The highlight of the conference was the address by Mr.Romain, the NNP’s co-ordinator for St.Andrew’s NW constituency. In his address, he spoke about his vision for the constituency, the work that was done in the area and the things that need to be done to reclaim the ‘seat’ for his party. He stated that he was “…a man with a plan” and that he was “… on a mission…” He implored the gathering to continue working hard to capture the constituency from the incumbent parliamentary representative, NDC’s Alleyne Walker and in so doing, help to keep the NNP in office for another term after the next election is called.

People at the conference were encouraged to turn out in their numbers to the NNP’s convention today (April 23, 2006) at the Tivoli Playing Field. The NNP is known to have a large following in the country and a massive gathering is anticipated at the function this afternoon.
