HOPE, St.Andrew’s (May 4, 2006): This evening (around 6:30pm), sixty-eight years old Meshack Clawney Patrick, who resided at Hope, lost his life in a vehicular accident along the Eastern Main Road, approximately 75 meters from the Kuma Junction (in Hope).

Based on reports from eyewitnesses, it would seem that Mr. Patrick was reversing from his driveway towards the main road when his vehicle turned over, resulting in his death. Mr. Patrick was driving a Nissan Xtrail, no. PS334 at the time. It is believed that his death may have resulted from a broken neck. The body of Mr. Patrick was carried to the Princess Alice Hospital and his vehicle was toured away by a local wrecker service.

Mr. Clawney Patrick spent most of his life in England but visits Grenada for holidays regularly. His wife is reportedly in England at the moment but his brother is in Grenada and was at hand to help deal with this terrible and unexpected tragedy.

There were many curious onlookers at the scene of the accident and some of them were speculating on what they thought could have contributed towards this mishap. Some were of the view that Mr. Patrick could have had a stroke or heart attack at the time he was reversing which may explain why he was not able to control the vehicle. There were no noticeable brake impressions on the ground. At this point, however, these speculations cannot be accurately confirmed.
