ST.CLOUDS, St.Andrew’s (May 6, 2006): Around 5:oo am this morning, a four door Honda vehicle, driven by Rondell, also known as ‘Mafway’, went off the St.Cloud’s bridge and ended up ‘bottoms up’ in the river.

Rondell sustained minor cuts and bruises but apparently was not seriously hurt and did not go to the Princess Alice Hospital for treatment. ‘Mafway’ lives just about 400 meters or so away from the spot where his vehicle went into the river.

At this point, it is not absolutely clear as to what may have caused the vehicle to veer off the road, but people who gathered at the scene to look at the car were speculating that the driver may have been tired and had fallen asleep at the wheel since it was so early in the morning.

Some years ago, a woman tried to traverse the bridge, which was submerged beneath raving floodwaters at the time; this move proved injudicious and costly since it resulted in the loss of life of her traveling companion as well as in the loss of her vehicle, which were both violently swept away by the raging flow of the river.

Drivers should always be cognizant of the fact that driving a vehicle requires a serious level of responsibility and literally leaves no room for error. Correct judgments ought to be made at all times since an absence of such can result in damage to people and property as well as in the loss of life.

It is for this reason that ‘Team Grenada’ wants to urge all drivers to strictly adhere to the provisions that are laid out in the ‘Drivers Code’, exercise good judgement at all times, never drive when under the influence of alcohol nor when they are feeling physically fatigued and sleepy. Let us try to keep the roads of Grenada safe and accident free for the rest of the year and the years beyond.
