LA FILLETTE, St. Andrew’s: On Thursday of this week (May 25, 2006), the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dr. Keith Mitchell, visited the rural village of La Fillette to hold one of his village meetings. La Fillette is in the St. Andrew’s North West constituency, a constituency that was won by the NDC’s Allene Walker in the last general elections held in Grenada.

On the platform with Dr.Mitchell were the Hon. Roland Bhola,Minister for Sports; the present NNP coordinator for the area, Mr. Starlen Romain; and former parliamentary representative for the area, Ms.Laurina Waldron.

All speakers touched on a wide range of topical issues, which included programs for the development of the youth and farming communities throughout the country, the reorganized house-repair program, the National Stadium and other projects that are designed to bring some large measure of development to the rural communities in the country.

Dr. Mitchell spoke passionately about the need for Grenadians to unite and work together to develop the country in the aftermath of the last two hurricanes. He spoke of some people in the country whose actions and statements seem to suggest that they do not have the present well being of the Grenadian people at heart.

The Prime Minister mentioned that his government had to make the difficult decision of asking Grenadians to pay a National Reconstruction Levy and applauded the people for their cooperation, because the country is now able to receive more financial assistance from the international community because of these sacrifices.

A sizeable crowd gathered infront of the La Fillette nutmeg pool to listen to Dr. Mitchell, Mr. Starlen Romain and Mr. Roland Bhola. Many of the persons at the meeting were wearing the ‘trademark’ green jersey, the color that represents the New National Party of Dr. Mitchell.
