By Davis Joseph (St.Andrew's correspondent)

TELESCOPE, St.Andrew’s: Residents of Quarry Road, in the village of Telescope, are crying out for some work to be done on the road, which passes through the village. This road is presently in a very terrible condition.

The heavy trucks removing gravel and sand from the Telescope Quarry on a daily basis is making the already severely damaged road worse. The pitiful condition of Quarry Road has now become a burning issue and residents in the area would like the government, in collaboration with the Gravel Concrete & Emulsion Production Corporation, to do some urgent repair work on the road so as to eliminate many of the daily inconveniences the residents in this area face.

In the dry season, residents are faced with the problem of inhaling the dust that comes from the parched, unpaved road. Additionally, the dust generated in the area, especially when the wind blows, flies around in the air and settles on the windows and furniture of the houses in the area, making them look very unseemly. Because of this situation, extra work has to be done to clean –up these buildings on a regular basis.

During the rainy season, the road is literally converted into a ‘mud street’ with numerous ‘mini lakes’ (potholes filled with water). The residents then find it difficult to walk along the road to go to work and most of them have to walk with an extra pair of shoes to change when they get out to the main road. The first pair of shoes will be dirty with mud. They also have to face the possibility of getting their clothes all soiled up as a result of vehicles traveling along the wet mud road.

Letters have been written to various authorities in the past, but to date, noting has happened. The rainy season is fast approaching and residents would soon have to brace themselves for the many inconveniences that this will bring. They will like to make another appeal to the relevant authorities, through this medium, to do some much needed and long overdue work on this neglected portion of road.
