GRENVILLE, St.Andrew’s - Organizers of this year’s Rainbow City Festival are promising an experience of a lifetime.

Committee Members are full swing into this year’s festival, which was officially launched on July 2, 2006, and guided under the theme “Rekindling the Festival in the Spirit of Emancipation”

On August 1, the organization piloted and commemorated Emancipation Day for the very first time. An African Dress Day started off the day’s commemoration and was followed by a Candle Light Emancipation March from the Telescope/Canal Junction to the Grenville Car Park. Over five hundred persons congregated at the park to see stunning performances from the Tivoli Drummers, TUMDA, The Birchgrove Maypole Dancers, the Moyah Dance and Drummers. The festival lights were also switched on winding down the evening’s activity.

Meanwhile, an All-Day Food Fair on Friday August 4 will see the continuation of activities for this year’s festival. The activity runs from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Grenville Car Park.

On Saturday August 5, it will be a vintage Calypso Soca concert at the Victoria Park in Grenville. It will be an evening to remember with performances from veteran Calypsonian like ‘Cro-Cro’ from Trinidad and Tobago. Also expected to perform are Ajamu, Black Wizard, Scholar, Randy Isaac and Boogie B, amongst other Calypsonians. The show starts at 8:00 p.m.

On Sunday August 6, there will be an Ecumenical Service at the Grenville Anglican Church that will be followed by an evening of culture at the Grenville Market Square.

The festival winds down with the Heritage Queen Show at the Grenville Market Square on August 7. Seven beauties, representing various countries in Africa, will vie for the coveted ‘Miss Heritage’ title.
