GRENVILLE, St. Andrew’s – Team Grenada performed very commendably at the recently held CUT games in St.Lucia, which ran from July 21 – 22. The CUT (Caribbean Union of Teachers) games have been taking place for well over twenty years and involves keenly contested athletic competition among young people from various Caribbean Islands in different age categories. The competition takes place every two years in one of the Caribbean territories.

Grenada was not able to participate in these games for about ten years because of the limited financial resources that were available. This year, however, things changed for the better when the GUT, members of the Grenadian corporate community and supportive citizens came together and raised the funds needed to enable a Grenadian contingent to attend and take part in the CUT games.

The Grenadian athletes were able to amass an impressive 307 points at the games, which landed the team in fourth place. Jamaica with 460 points came in first followed by Trinidad with 404 points and Barbados, in third position, with 382 points. St. Kitts with 162 points placed fifth in the competition. In all, some 15 Caribbean countries were represented at the games.

Grenadian athletes who attended the games and returned home with medals are:

Additionally, we would like to appeal to all patriotic Grenadians, as well as members of the corporate community in Grenada, to contribute whatever they could towards the continued development of the young people on the island.
