NEWS ALERT in response to foiled terror plot in UK



Bridgetown, Barbados, August 9, 2006 - As a result of a foiled terrorist plot in London today to blow up a number of airlines enroute to the United States in mid-flight using liquid explosives all airlines operating into England and the United States including those from the Caribbean have instituted new security measures.

While hand luggage is not banned what can be carried onboard is now severely restricted. Air Jamaica, BWIA, American Airlines, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airlines, Continental Airlines and all other carriers from the Caribbean to Britain and the US have announced the following security measures with some airlines waiving fees for additional baggage. Please check with individual airlines for their specific policy.

Passengers are asked to allow themselves plenty of extra time to get to the airport and to ensure that other than the few permitted items listed above, all their belongings are placed in their hold baggage and checked in.

TO BRITAIN

Passengers may take through the airport security search point, in a single (ideally transparent) plastic carrier bag, only the following items. Nothing may be carried in pockets:
· Pocket size wallets and pocket size purses plus contents (for example money, credit cards, identity cards etc (not handbags);
· Travel documents essential for the journey (for example passports and travel tickets);
· Prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight (e.g. diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless verified as authentic.
· Spectacles and sunglasses, without cases.
· Contact lens holders, without bottles of solution.
· For those traveling with an infant: baby food, milk (the contents of each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) and sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight (nappies, wipes, creams and nappy disposal bags).
· Female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if unboxed (e.g. tampons, pads, towels and wipes).
· Tissues (unboxed) and/or handkerchiefs
· Keys (but no electrical key fobs)
· All passengers must be hand searched, and their footwear and all the items they are carrying must be x-ray screened.
· Wheelchairs and walking aids must be x-ray screened, and only airport-provided wheelchairs may pass through the screening point.

TRAVELLING TO THE UNITED STATES

The United States Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Administration has advised that effective IMMEDIATELY passengers traveling to and from the United States may not have liquids or gels of any size at the screening checkpoint or in the cabin of the aircraft.
These prohibited items include: beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, skin lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel and other items of similar consistency.
Such items may be transported in checked baggage ONLY.
Passengers may have: baby formula, breast milk, or juice if a baby or small child is traveling. Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger's ticket. Insulin and other essential non-prescription medicines.
All beverages purchased in the sterile area must be consumed before boarding the aircraft.
