ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada (Friday August 11, 2006) - The Tanteen Playing Field will shake violently when it gets a feel of the country’s hottest Soca music for the 2006 Carnival season. Thousands are expected to crowd the arena for the finals of the 2006 Soca Monarch Competition from nine o’clock this evening. The music has been thunderous this year and fans are expecting a shocker, when the top 16 soca artists attempt to grab the title from defending champion Dave Peters ‘Boogie B’. Well Boogie B is not prepared to relinquish his crown without a tussle and an intriguing Tug-of –War is in the making.

Former champions, Randy Isaac, TallPree, Mr Killer, Ajamu and Zingo are all keen to grab the championship and have warned that they will be coming forcefully. However a number of young guns are also in the shoot out and are yearning to be fastest and most deadly in the final show down. It all sets the scene for a truly fascinating final. Artists are warming to the new venue. They were very much restricted with their presentations last year at the Tanteen Netball Court, and have planned to let loose on this occasion in the open pasture.

Five newcomers or young guns are in on the act – Englishman Andrew Welham – Soca Sterling, Lyndon Adams – Pupa Lendi, Roger Williams –Frenchy, Ken Joseph – KJ and Gordson Agard – Soca Bantam. Soca Sterling has caused a stir with his “Bum Bum Time” and Soca Bantam is certainly one of the favourites with his rendition “Over your head”, which is rocking the country. Pupa Lendi is singing “Jouvert Jam”, Frenchy is doing “Kangaroo, while KJ will be presenting “Rag time, my time.”

Randy Isaac has also created a big impression with his “Propaganda”. Tallpree will be doing a rendition entitled “Clean Heart, Mr Killer one dubbed “Roll your waist”, Ajamu a song dubbed “White Flags, while Zingo’s presentation will be “National Flag Colours”.

The other semi-finals are Marcus James Lavaman, who will be singing “No Condition,” Papa Jerry, “ Jump for Selassie, Chain “Not so old man,” Mr West “Still West” and Gary Williams “Ah do want to hear it”. Luni Sparks is the standby.
