ST. GEORGE, Grenada - After a successful and rewarding experience, the Catholic Church is contemplating making their “Catholic Can Cook”, and annual affair. Hundreds turned out for the inaugural event on Saturday August 12 at the Trade Center, Grand Anse and the organizers are keen for a repeat - maybe to fall in line with all of the activities that will be taking place here next April when the ICC Cricket World Cup comes to Grenada.

“I think this will be an annual event. I think it’s the proper time to do it with all the visitors in the country. I can see it becoming a regular feature on the calendar of the event of the Grenada Board of Tourism. It is family and socially oriented. We want people to relate and interact with each other”, said Coordinator of the activity, Mrs. Anya Brathwaite. She said that the activity was a big success. The occasion was part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Catholic Diocese in Grenada.

“We were looking for the type of event that will bring the whole of Grenada together and we hit on the idea of using food as a medium by which we can do just that and I think you can testify that it was a very successful event”, Mrs Brathwaite said. She indicated that the activity had achieved its objective of “Building community through the spirit.” Many tasty dishes like the oil Down, Pepper Pot, Breadfruit, Potato and Rice dishes, Cassava and Farine and a wide array of meat products were on display.

Local drinks were also in abundance along with Lambie and Manish Waters. There were also plenty of activities for children with the Bouncing Castle and Face-painting.
