ST.GEORGE, Grenada - Young Grenada and West Indies fast bowler Neilon Pascal says that he is on a mission to represent the West Indies with merit in the not too distant future. “We are lacking fast and penetrative bowlers at the moment. I will like to become a seasoned player on the team and take many scalps”, said young Pascal, who has been chosen in the All Star 20/20 team to meet South Africa in November.
Pascal, who along compatriot Andre Fletcher represented the West Indies in the World Youth Tournament towards the end of last year, has been chosen in a 20-man squad for the upcoming engagement in St John’s, Antigua on November 4. Pascal impressed all with pace and accuracy in the just ended inaugural Stanford 20/20 Tournament in Antigua, where he took five wickets in three matches. He consistently was in the high 80’s (mph), much to the admiration and delight of local and regional cricket fans.
“I am looking to do well in the upcoming Windward Islands Tournament. I am hoping for a bagful of wickets and earn selection on the Windward Islands team for the 2007 regional cricket season”, he told me. Pascal is confident of making a dynamic impression in the senior regional competition and earning the nod of the selectors for a place on the West Indies team. “I want to play international cricket. I am training hard, working on my strength and physical fitness in a bid to get stronger and consistently hit the 90 mph speed limit”, he said.
Pascal is confident of getting into the Stanford 20/20 13 to meet the South Africans. The other Grenadians chosen in the 20-man squad are Wicket/keeper/batsman Andre Fletcher; skipper Rawle Lewis and left Arm Orthodox Spinner Dennis George.
Also included in the squad are: Christopher Gayle, Darren Ganga, Kerion Pollard, Marlon Samuel, Uson Crandon, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Pedro Collins, Jerome Taylor, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Narsingh Deonarine, Wavel Hinds, Travis Dowling, Tonitto Willette, Merv Dillion, Carlton Baugh and Darren Sammy.
