ST.GEORGE, Grenada - Grenada’s four cricketers selected in the Stanford 20/20 20-man training squad are hoping to be selected in the 13-man squad for the upcoming 20/20 encounter against South Africa at the Sticky Wicket Facility in St John’s, Antigua on Friday November 10. The players, who left in high spirits last week for a three-week training camp in Antigua, are hopeful that they can make the final cut.

“We will be aiming to put in some impressive performances to win the nod of the selectors. I think we all have a good chance of making the 13 for the game against South Africa,” said Skipper Rawle Lewis before leaving for St John’s. 19-year old Neilon Pascal and 18-year old Wicket-keeper/Batsman Andre Fletcher, who represented the West Indies under-19 team last year in the World Youth Tournament in Sri Lanka and young left arm spinner Devon George, are the other Grenadians in the Stanford training squad.

Lewis, who was recently recalled to the West Indies team after nine years has been showing exemplorary leadership of Grenada and the Windward Islands in regional cricket not only with his knowledge of the game but also as a player, who has been leading from the front. Manager Steve Mahon is confident that the four players, who caught the eyes of the selectors at the recent tournament in Antigua, will make the Stanford 13 for the game against South Africa. George has a good chance if he works hard; but Lewis, Pascal and Fletcher stand a good chance,” Mahon told Spice Isle Review.

“I will be hoping to bowl fast and pick up many wickets during the training session. I think I can begin to hit the 90 mph mark and really cause more problems to batsmen”, Pascal, who consistently hit the 86/88 mph during the recent tournament, said. The 20-man training squad under the watchful eyes of coaches David Williams of Trinidad and Tobago the former West Indies player and former Barbados spinner Henderson Springer are receiving a stipend of US$200 a day during the three-week training exercise. US$5 million are up for grabs in the upcoming 20/20 encounter between the Stanford Team and South Africa.
