ST.GEORGE, Grenada - The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Winston James, thanked the general public, the Grenada Carnival Committee and the various stakeholders of Carnival for their outstanding behavior, and high levels of cooperation and assistance offered to the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) during the recently concluded season. So states a Media Release coming from the office of the Commissioner of Police dated August 28, 2006.

The release went on to state that despite a few serious incidents in the St. George’s area, there were no major violent acts directly related to carnival in the Eastern and Western Districts. A number of persons have been arrested and charged for some of the incidents in the St. George’s area, and more arrests are probable as the lawmen carry on with their investigations.

Carnival 2k6 provided the Local Security Committee with an ideal occasion to try out some of the procedures that they intend to use during Grenada’s hosting of cricket matches in the ICC Cricket World Cup for 2007. Some of the major elements tested were Venue Operations, Mass Crowds and Traffic Control and Management and Emergency Response and Management.

The objectives of the exercise were to check our preparedness, and to identify shortcomings and weaknesses so the necessary corrective measures can be taken before CWC 2007.

More exercises of this nature would be held before April of 2007 and the Commissioner of Police is looking forward to the continued cooperation from the general public and related stakeholders.
