POLICE CHIEF EXPRESSES CONCERN ABOUT JUVENILE DELINQUENCY

By Wallace J.A (Inside Grenada correspondent)

ST.GEORGE, Grenada – The Commissioner of Police in Grenada, Mr. Winston James, has expressed concern with the number of reports involving delinquent behavior among juveniles, especially in the southern part of the island.

As a result of this development, Mr. James has directed his officers to adopt a more proactive approach in dealing with and successfully managing this department. To accomplish this, a strategy has been devised. According to a media release from the RGPF, this strategy would involve members of the police force engaging parents and guardians on a regular basis and increasing surveillances with a view to more effectively monitoring the activities and whereabouts of young people and their associates known to be involved in delinquent behavior.

Also, blatant disregard for law and order and the common practice of carrying implements, such as cutlasses and knives, would not be tolerated by the lawmen and persons found with such items in their possession could find themselves in deep trouble.

Additionally, Commissioner James, along with some senior officers of the Royal Grenada Police Force, met with Senator Emmalin Pierre, Minister within the Prime Minister’s Ministry with responsibility for Youth Affairs, to chart an approach to optimistically engage youths with an aberrant history. The plan is expected to make use of resources of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and the Royal Grenada Police Force.
