ST.GEORGE, Grenada (September 6, 2006) - The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) has planned a series of activities to commemorate the second anniversary of Hurricane Ivan.

They include media activities geared at heightening the awareness of the population to Disaster Management issues.

A live television programme to be carried simultaneously on the Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN), Cable Vision Channel 6 and the Government Information Service (GIS) is planned for this Thursday evening from eight PM.

The programme will feature CDERA Coordinator Jeremy Collymore, NaDMA Coordinator Sylvan McIntyre, and representatives from ARD, Housing Authority, the Point Salines Met. Office and the District.

The Thursday night television programme will examine progress made in Disaster Management since Ivan, as well as the pace of reconstruction.

NaDMA has released a special Public Service Advertisement for the broadcasting media highlighting its achievements since Ivan.

The agency is launching an Ivan Photo contest, the rules of which are currently being reviewed.

Persons who took still or moving pictures during the passage of the Hurricane are encouraged to participate.

In addition, officials from NaDMA will attend the national inter-faith service scheduled for the GBSS auditorium this Sunday from 3pm.

A collection will be taken up so that a donation can be made to NaDMA for Disaster Management purposes.

Also, The General Public, is expected to observe a minute silence on Thursday as a mark of respect to the 30 plus persons who lost their lives two years ago when Grenada’s worst Hurricane in 50 years struck.
