GRENADA (September 08, 2006) - The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) on Friday handed over a gift of furniture and Kitchen cupboards to the Beaulieu RC School.

Beaulieu RC received 14 locally purchased desks and chairs for the teachers at the school.

The furniture was provided by the Toronto Police Cricket Club after several members visited the island in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan.

Miss Deniese Guy, a Beauleau resident employed with NaDMA, who once worked with the Toronto Police, played a lead role in making the donation possible.

“I sat as the Coordinator in putting this thing together and I am very happy to see that it has come to fruition,” said Miss Guy, the Community Training Officer at NaDMA, during a hand over ceremony at the school on Friday.

The shipment from Toronto included kitchen cupboards and counter tops and drawers for the kitchen and lunch room at the school.

The Toronto Police also paid to have the back splash re-tiled and the walls of the kitchen painted.

They also purchased one thousand identification pouches to be worn by District Disaster Committee Volunteers.

“The Ministry of Education is very pleased that the Toronto Police Cricket Club has made such a contribution to the school” said Julien Ogilvie, representing Education minister Claris Charles.

“We recognize that an amount of damage was done by Ivan and knowing also most of our schools were devastated, it was a very difficult task for the Ministry of Education to provide all the facilities that were needed. Up to this point some schools are still in need of facilities”.

“Today we are here to see the culmination of the promise that has been made” said Beauleau School Principal, Mr. Cecil St. Louis.

“The promise to ensure the school kitchen will feel good, will look good and will be able to keep its things in proper order in very beautiful cupboards and the teachers who have been standing for much of their teaching life long before Ivan”.
