TELESCOPE, St. Andrew - St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (SAASS) has once again shown that it intends on keeping its sacred motto: Semper Navigans (Always Sailing). This institution continues to sail on despite the many storms it has encountered over the years. Its dogged perseverance in the pursuit of excellence can be credited to its administration, dedicated and loyal teachers and of course the students, who always make an effort to maintain its buoyancy.

Over the years S.A.A.S.S has worked very hard to build for itself a rich and durable legacy as one of the top educational institutions on the island. Last year (2005) was no exception. Kaydeonne Ellis attained an astounding total of 12 subjects. Following her were Antus Clarke, Kinnard Blache and Cornelius Joseph who successfully attained 11 subjects. Many others were able to obtain passes in 10, 9 and 8 disciplines. Kaydeonne Ellis and Antus Clarke are presently students of the St. George’s University.

For this academic year, S.A.A.S.S has shown once again that it is a formidable force to be reckoned with, not only athletically but also academically. The school's top performer in this year's CXC examinations is Leon Abel, a young intellectual with tremendous potential.

Leon entered S.A.A.S.S in 2001 and from day one, has never ceased to display his exceptional intellect and discipline. He was involved in many co-curricular activities and organizations throughout his sojourn at SAASS. He was a member of the school's choir, President of the Science Club, a debater and a sporting enthusiast. He was also an active member of the school's Student Council and represented SAASS in inter-secondary school quizzes.

Leon acquired 11 passes at the CSEC level with 10 Grade I's and a Grade II. He received Grade 1’s in the following disciplines: English A, English B, French, Spanish, Geography, Social Studies, Principles of Business, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. The Grade II was in Mathematics. This young man delivered an inspirational and touching valedictory speech at the 2006 Graduation ceremony and then went on to grasp almost all the awards of distinction, including the prestigious Principal’s Award. He is now pursuing an associate degree at the T. A. Marryshow Community College in the field of the Natural Sciences.

Leon wasn’t the sole contributor to S.A.A.S.S’s outstanding performance this year. Joining him on this journey of excellence is Ronnie Flanders, who secured 11 passes (4 Grade 1’s and 7 Grade II’s); Kenton Celestine (10 passes); David St. Louis (10 passes); and Jamie Nedd, Mary Banfield, Ishon Peters and Winroy Lynch, who all gained 9 passes. These are the names of just a few of the students who would have demonstrated true academic excellence this year. These, as well as the other students who performed extremely well, should be applauded, not only for their academic prowess but also for their dedication, perseverance and exemplary discipline.
