GRENADA - A four-member team from the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) will be in Carriacou on Thursday September 28 for three separate assignments all aimed at boosting the island’s ability to cope in the event of a disaster.

The team is being headed by Mrs. Elizabeth Greenidge, the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s office, who also sits as the Deputy Chairperson of the National Emergency Advisory Council (NEAC).

The rest of the team is Coordinator, Sylvan McIntyre, and staffers Valerie Phillips and Christine Lewis.

The highlight of the one-day visit to Carriacou by the NaDMA team is an official function to declare open the Carriacou District Disaster Office, which will function out of the Carriacou administrative building for the time being. The district will have its own independent facility later this year.

Speakers at the opening will include PS Greenidge, Coordinator McIntyre and the Coordinator for the District Disaster Office in Carriacou, Bernadette Sylvester.

The office is already equipped with computers, office supplies as well as emergency response equipment. Funding has been provided by CIDA as part of a programme through CDERA dubbed ‘the CIDA Ivan Project.’

The NaDMA teams will also be engaged in two other important activities in Carriacou.

A presentation on aspects of Disaster management will be held for persons working in the Ministries. A workshop has also been schedule to assist persons in preparing a disaster plan for the Ministry of Carriacou and Petit Martinique Affairs.
