TELESCOPE, St. Andrew’s (October 04, 2006) – Today, Mr. Ollivierre and an entourage from Cable & Wireless paid a visit to the St.Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (SAASS) to make a presentation of some computers to the school.

A gift of four Max systems with high speed internet access was handed over to the principal of the school, Ms. Joylyn Lyle, by Mr. Ollivierre in a handing-over ceremony held in the school’s library, where the computers will be stationed. Additionally, the school was granted three free months of internet access.

In handing over the systems, Mr.Ollivierre stated that he hoped the donation of the computers to the school will go a long way in assisting students and teachers of the institution in meeting their research needs as well as facilitating their documentation and recording of information.

Ms. Lyle, principal of SAASS, thanked Cable & Wireless for their timely donation and assured the telecommunications giant that the systems would be put to good use.

The St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary, with a student population of over 700 students, is one of the secondary schools in the island without a functioning computer lab. The section of the school that housed the computer lab sustained severe structural damage during the passage of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. That section of the school is yet to be repaired, two years after the passage of that hurricane. It is hoped, however, that repairs to the building will commence soon.
