CATEGORY:SPECIAL OBSERVANCE

By Wallace J.A (Inside Grenada correspondent)

GRENADA - Grenadian lawyers are in the process of observing Law Week, which began on Sunday October 8, 2006. The theme selected for this year’s observance is: Towards eradicating violence and promoting social stability.

The observance started off with a church service on Sunday and yesterday (Monday), a reception was held to say farewell to Justice Davidson Baptiste, who served in Grenada for about one year. He will be succeeded by Justice Claire Henry of Antigua, who will be coming into the country from Dominica, where he was based.

During the course of this week, students will be allowed to visit courthouses to witness the nature of court proceedings. Also, lawyers will be visiting secondary schools throughout the island to educate students on matters pertaining to law and the legal profession.

According to the President of the Grenada Bar Association, Mr. Ruggles Ferguson, one of the most important functions to be undertaken this week would be meeting and talking with gang leaders and persons who are affected by their negative activities.
