ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada - President of the Grenada Cricket Association, Kenny Hobson, says officials in Grenada and the region must become more professional in their approach to truly lift the standard of the game. “As we approach World Cup 2007, we must lift our standards to the stage where we can leave a legacy”, the cricket boss said at the recent Cricket Awards Ceremony in St George’s

With some of the top teams expected here for the Super Eight or second round of the competition (April 10—20 next year) Hobson said that the country will be challenged to produce quality standards. “The biggest challenge will be for the Grenada Cricket Association and our authorities to develop a plan that will ensure benefits to the country. We cannot continue to do business as usual.”

He said that the Association cannot continue to be run from someone’s home or from the secretary’s office. “We must have a home for cricket with full time employees.” The former Grenada and Combined Islands all-rounder is of the conviction that dialogue must be held with the key stakeholders for the further advancement of the sport. He said that the Association is moving to amend its constitution, with a first draft, having already being prepared.

“It is hoped that the next general elections will be held under the new constitution.” Hobson said that a seminar to review the strategic development plans of the Association will be held towards the end of the month. He called on the support of all to help lift the administrative standards of the game. “We need scorers, umpires, coaches, managers, trainers, groundsmen, administrators and the works. We must be prepared to maintain high standards”, he said.
