MDC RETAIN NETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

GRENADA - The school from the Northern Parish of the Island- MC Donald College - is still champion of Secondary Schools Netball.

The St Patrick outfit produced a rousing performance to overwhelm Anglican High School to hold onto the A Division title for the third year in a row. They scored a convincing 52-18 victory over their opponents in the finals on Wednesday November 22 at the Tanteen Sporting Complex.

Spurred on by vociferous school support, Mc Donald College outran, out passed and outclassed their opponents. They led 15-5 at the end of the first quarter, 25-8 at the end of the second, 40-11 at the completion of the third and comfortably ran out winners 52-18 at the end of the 60-minute encounter. Their shoots- Goal Shoot Latisha Cato and Kenisha Olive were lethal in the attacking third.

Six –foot Cato, who towered over her opponent was simply brilliant converting more than 80% of her attempts. The team moved the ball around the court purposefully proving to be no match in the end. Mc Donald College finished 4th in the B Division Competition, losing 20-25 to St Joseph’s Convent, St George’s in the third place play-off.

The champion A-Division Team comprised the shoots Cato and Olive, Wing Attack Makada Cato, Wing Defense Cindy Ann Wilson, Goal Defense Mindy Mc Queen, Goal Keep Tehera Thomas and Centre Gem Olive. The team was coached by Vanessa Thomas. St Joseph’s Convent Grenville won the third place play-off in the A Division Champion with a hard fought 41-39 victory Mc Donald College.

They staged a valiant last quarter rally to win the game after trailing in a three quarters going into the final 10-13, 21-25, 31-32. Anglican High School nonetheless captured the B Division Title, scoring a close 20-19 victory over Grenville Secondary in the play-off in a ding dong battle.

The winning schools and top finishers received trophies, medals and cash incentives compliments the Sponsor, D’s Sports Shop, which also provided awards to the MVPS of the 14 participating schools with awards.
