AT.GEORGE’S, Grenada - The Grenada Football Association was high in praise for yet another successful Football Season. Speaking at the Awards Ceremony held over the weekend at the Trade Centre, President Ashley Folkes commended all those concerned with the smooth and timely running of the Season. Also in attendance was the Patron of the GFA, His Excellency Sir Daniel Williams, Premier League Sponsor Digicel represented by Ms Janice Cuffie and the feature speaker of the evening, a former General Secretary to the GFA, Mr. Ambrose Phillip. Mr. Phillip focused his address on the role of Volunteers in Sports today and encourage all present to work together to build a brighter future for our young sports men and women.

Then it came to the presentation of awards, interestingly most of the awards were coveted by teams and individuals outside of the Parish of St. George. In the Individual awards: Golden Boot (Player scoring the most goals) in Second Divison went to Curlan Walcott (Five Stars). In the First Division, Micah Stevens (South Stars) and National Striker Denis Rennie in the Premier Division.

Awards went to the teams scoring the most goals: Carib Hurricane, South Stars and Five Stars each received trophies for the Premier, First and Second Divisions respectively.

Then in the GFA Open Knock out: Carib Hurricane placed first while Fontenoy United had to settle for the second spot in a match that was decided earlier on in the day.

The final set of team’s awards was presented to the winners of each Division. Carib Hurricane, Chantimelle and Five Stars.

In the end, the ceremony took special time out to show appreciation for Football Greats. Persons who would have contributed immensely to the development of football in the past. The three awardees were: Royston La Hee, Alvin Campbell and Winston De Coteau.

Team Awards
Premier Division

1st Place

This is not a new feat to this Club. They know the taste of being crowned Champions. A strong and vibrant Club with football at the centre of their normal village activities. Amassing a total of 38 points; one more than the second place but enough to see them at the top. Scoring 37 goals, winning 11 matches, losing two (2) and drawing (5).
Medals, trophy and $12,000 dollars.
Champions of the 2006 DIGICEL Premier League.
CARIB HURRICANE

2nd Place

They led for almost the entire Season, demonstrating grit and determination to succeed. Their faith was partially decided when they lost their pen-ultimate match. They too as many a Club was faced with difficult circumstances throughout the Season. Totaling 37 points, winning 11 matches, losing only three (3) and drawing four (4) and scoring 32 goals. Medals, trophy and $8,000 dollars.
QUEENS PARK RANGERS

A very impressive run this Season. Infact, at the latter stage they were counted as one of the three (3) teams who had a possible chance of winning the DIGICEL Premier League. A team that can boast of an experience lineup mixed with explosive youth. They scored a total of 29 goals and amass a total of 34 points from 18 matches. Medals, trophy and $5,000 dollars.
HARD ROCK

Team Awards
First Division

1st Place

They started out at the top and never exchange their position at the number one spot for the entire Season. It is a Club that has been around for quite some time and never made to the Premier League. Today, they have achieved such a feat. They will now be faced the task of maintaining the high standards they set in the First Division. Amassing a total of 43 points, winning 14 matches, losing three (3) and drawing one (1). Medals, trophy and $6,000 dollars.
CHANTIMELLE

2nd Place

They can be seen almost everyday playing football, if not competitively or just having fun or preparing for the next encounter. They can be referred to as “Ball Dogs” with no offense. Undoubtedly, they scored the most goals in the First Division; a total of 50 the second highest by any Team this Season. They have also coveted a supreme spot in the GFA, a place in the Premier Division after winning the play off against D’Sports Shop Morne Jaloux. Only recently affiliated to the GFA, the men from the south have already made their mark sending a strong statement to the other Premier Division Clubs.
Totaling 35 points, winning 11 matches, losing only four (4) and drawing three (3) and scoring 34 goals.
Medals, trophy and $4000 dollars.
SOUTH STARS

3rd Place

They were definitely considered title contenders at the start and during the Season. A very young team with lots of potential. Coach by former national coach Nat Simpson, one thing you can assure yourself is that they will come knocking at the Premiership door again. They scored a total of 38 goals and amass a total of 29 points from 18 matches.
Medals, trophy and $2,500 dollars.
FUTGOF

Team Awards
Second Division

1st Place

They narrowly missed out on a place in the First Division last year but they assured themselves that they had the material to deliver and so they did gaining automatic promotion to the First Division next year. Affiliated to the GFA within the last five (5) years. They have scored the most amount of goals; 55 goals. Placing first in the Second Division. Medals, trophy and $3,000 dollars.
FIVE STARS

2nd Place

They truly deserve this award. They fought hard throughout the entire season barring difficult circumstances. One in particular is the lack of or the proximity of practice venue. Their biggest feat however was more than just placing second; they are now promoted to the First Divison after winning both play off encounters against Trade Centre Honved. They too joined the ranks of the GFA only three years ago. Scoring a total of 35 points, winning 10 matches, losing only one (1) and drawing five (5) and scoring 34 goals. Medals, trophy and $2000 dollars.
SUNJETS

3rd Place

This team joined the ranks of the GFA only three (3) years ago. In fact, at the start of the season they were considered as one of the favorites to covet the prestigious prize of winning the 2nd Division. Even though they placed third and should be happy about it, they must feel a bit of let down knowing that they fell one (1) point short of their second place rivals. They amass a total of 34 points winning 10 matches, losing two (2) and drawing four (4) and scoring 40 goals, the second highest in that Division. They hail from the northern parish; St. Patrick’s.
